Title: Supv Emergency Svcs Dept, RN
Location: San Diego, CA
Provides (8-24 hours, 7 days/week) first-line operational supervision of the delivery, implementation, & evaluation/improvement of direct patient care emergency medicine & nursing services & personnel in assigned functional unit/area(s) within a 24/7 Emergency Services Department. Ensures that health care team/staff provide high quality, cost-effective care, & patient- focused services that comply w/ all organizational, departmental, & local, state & federal regulatory requirements. Within assigned unit/area(s) implements, monitors, maintains, & evaluates clinical nursing practice, quality, cost, service, & utilization management standards.
Essential Functions:
- Supervises the day-to-day operations & delivery of emergency nursing & patient care services including clinical practice standards, staffing, scheduling, safety/risk management, payroll, human resources, labor relations, budgets, and quality management/improvement
- Ensures that the highest quality of care is provided that complies w/ the Nursing Practice Act, JCAHO, federal, state, & local regulatory requirements, established departmental policies/procedures & standards, as well as w/ utilization & clinical/performance standards & measures
- Evaluates/monitors & improves quality of service & utilization standards & responsible for coordinating/providing patient care that meets member, physician/provider, & internal clients' needs across the continuum of care
- Investigates, recommends, & implements/evaluates processes/practices to improve systems & patient care
- Monitors, improves, & evaluates the performance of assigned staff; develops staff; counsels staff regarding performance issues; resolves human resources & labor relations issues; responsible on the first level for hiring, termination, discipline, promotion, & demotion
- Collaborates w/ other managers & departments in developing appropriate levels of services; measuring & improving internal & external customer satisfaction; meeting access demands & service needs; improving the cost structure
- Investigates & resolves patient/family/member concerns regarding patient care & service quality
- Monitors & expedites patient care as indicated by patient condition; assigns patients to staff as indicated by acuity
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Previous recent clinical experience, usually minimum three (3) years in emergency or critical care nursing services which may include the required supervisory or lead experience specified above
- BSN or BA/BS in healthcare or closely related field OR minimum two (2) years ofsupervisory experience in critical care or emergency services nursing OR minimum three (3) years of lead experience in critical care or emergency nursing services
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current/valid California RN license required
- BCLS and ACLS required
- Emergency Nursing Certificate preferred
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act, JCAHO, EMTALA and other local, state and federal regulations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Computer skills in Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Access
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to lead small groups
- PALS
